Background on the Bah Case:
Sept. 25, 2012 Hawa Bah, the mother of Harlem resident Mohamed Bah, called 911 to request an ambulance for her son who she felt was in physical and emotional distress. Instead of an ambulance, NYPD Emergency Services Unit officers arrived. Despite Mrs. Bah pleading with them not to, the officers forced their way into her son’s apartment – against NYPD protocol and without a warrant – with guns drawn and shot him eight times, killing him. Evidence shows that the last shot was fired at close range, while Bah lay on the ground. The NYPD claims Mohamed Bah had a knife, but has failed to produce one as evidence.
A little over a year after the incident, a Manhattan grand jury failed to indict any of the officers responsible. The case has been in the hands of the Department of Justice since. On July 21, 2016 the DOJ confirmed they are still reviewing the case in a meeting with family members, but there has been no indication of a full investigation or other movement since.
