The Interfaith Center of New York needs your support as we work to preserve the inclusive city we know and love. Please make a donation in this crucial moment.
Last month, in a public address at Cooper Union, Mayor Bill de Blasio made clear that our city government is prepared to fight back against Donald Trump’s bigoted, xenophobic policy proposals: deporting undocumented immigrants, bringing back stop-and-frisk policing, slashing social services, and creating a national registry of American Muslims. Mayor de Blasio vowed that New York will remain a “sanctuary city” in the deepest sense of the term – a place of refuge and spiritual sustenance for every member of our beloved community. “We are 8.5 million strong,” the Mayor reminded us, “and we ain’t changing. We are always New York.”
But the Mayor and other civic officials need our support in this crucial moment, and that’s why the Interfaith Center’s work with local religious leaders has never been more important. For nearly 20 years, ICNY has worked to overcome prejudice, violence, and misunderstanding by activating the power of the city’s grassroots religious and civic leaders and their communities – and we ain’t changing either. Through advocacy, organizing, and education, we are committed to protecting all New Yorkers. We know that we are stronger together. We embrace the beauty of New York, and celebrate its vibrant, religiously diverse communities.
