Even for non-Catholics, the pope’s visit was meaningful because of its focus on often-invisible communities, said Rev. Chloe Breyer, executive director of the Interfaith Center of New York. “This is something that most religious traditions agree is the right thing to do.”
Rev. Breyer said she thinks the pope has “a bit of a blind spot” regarding women’s ordination, but that doesn’t take away from his work for the marginalized.
She recalled speaking to a Sikh leader at the event at the 9/11 Memorial: “He said to me the other day that everyone thinks that he is their pope.”
