The Majlis Shura of New York (The Islamic Leadership Council) and The Interfaith Center of New York host a press conference and prayer mourning the senseless loss of life from the horrific attacks in Paris
New York, NY — The Islamic Leadership Council, the largest Muslim religious umbrella organization in the Nation, is hosting a press conference and prayer with The Interfaith Center of New York, tomorrow, Wednesday, November 18th, at 1:00 PM at the Muslim American Society Youth Center at 1933 Bath Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11214. Feel free to contact them at (718) 232-5905.
The Majlis condemns the horrific attacks in Paris over the weekend on Islamic grounds. Indeed, Islamic teachings are clear and unequivocal stating that the taking of a single innocent life is tantamount to killing all of humankind. Like natural disasters, terrorism does not discriminate based on religion, race, gender or age whether perpetrated by a state, group or individual. The world witnessed this type of indiscriminate bloodshed last week not only in Paris, but also in Beirut, Kenya, Yola, Iraq and other places around the world. The Muslim community is as, if not more, concerned regarding the threat of terrorism as other communities are around the world. We are steadfast in our concerns over terrorism.
Religious leaders from diverse faith communities across New York will be present to offer prayers and statements of support. These expressions of concern from religious leaders of various faith traditions come at a critical moment when rash anti-Syrian Refugee legislation has passed in over twelve states. This anti-Syrian Refugee reaction has come at a time when no less than 26 mosques have been attacked in France, offering evidence of a growing backlash against people of Muslim faith. We pray that these hasty reactionary measures are not a sign of more armed conflict and human suffering to come.
Most of all this press conference and prayer will offer condolences to the people of France–no matter what religious tradition they are from. Violence as we saw last Friday is indiscriminate. Muslims and other religious leaders of New York grieve on behalf of friends and families of the victims.
