From the 5th Annual Brooklyn Folk Arts Day, made possible by Brooklyn Arts Council, in partnership with the Brooklyn Historical Society and The Interfaith Center of New York. This event, held at the beautiful Great Hall at the Brooklyn Historical Society, featured interactive presentations of ritual practices from Guyana (Baba Mpho), Ghana (Harold Akyeampong), and India (Aeilushi Mistry). In addition, a town-hall discussion addressed ways to preserve, sustain, and demystify misconceptions surrounding traditional rituals and cultural ceremonies practiced in Brooklyn.
Preserving and Demystifying Ritual and Ceremony in Brooklyn is supported by a grant from New York Council for the Humanities. BAC Folk Arts is sponsored by Con Edison. Additional support for BAC folk arts programs comes from the Howard Gilman Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, New York Council for the Humanities, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and New New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the New York City Council.
