ACTION ALERT: June 10 Rally and Iftar to Combat Hate

June 8, 2017 ICNY

Dear Friends and Fellow New Yorkers,

Unfortunately I’m writing to let you know that this Saturday, June 10 — during the sacred month of Ramadan — a coalition of Alt-Right, Islamophobic, Anti-Semitic, and White-Nationalist organizations is holding demonstrations “against Sharia” in New York and 20+ other cities nationwide.

We must send a clear message to bigots and fear-mongers that we love and support our Muslim neighbors.

We will not give in to hate in New York City.

Saturday, June 10, the same day as the “March Against Sharia,” we hope you will join us for an interfaith iftar (break fast) dinner, co-sponsored by the Interfaith Center of New York and New York Disaster Interfaith Services, in partnership with the Muslim Community Network.  We will break bread together from 7:30 – 9:00 pm, at Cadman Plaza Park in Brooklyn Heights.

Please join us in building a resilient, inclusive city through unity and strength.

In addition, we hope you can join a broad coalition of grassroots organizations, including New York Loves Muslims, Jewish Voices for Peace, CAIR – NY, the Interfaith Center of New York, and many others, at a counter-demonstration for religious diversity and inclusion from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at City Hall Park.

With these two events organized to counter the hate-filled “March Against Sharia,” we call upon all New Yorkers — especially communities of faith — to show their love and support for our Muslim neighbors.  Please help us ensure that New York remains an inclusive city for all.

Best Wishes,

Rev. Dr. Chloe Breyer
Executive Director
Interfaith Center of New York
