The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and The New York Community Trust, in partnership with Citizens Committee for New York City, are offering free skill-building workshops for emerging immigrant leaders. The workshops will cover navigating city government, the fundamentals of organizing communities and grassroots fundraising. Groups will be invited to apply for micro-grant funds and project planning assistance to undertake a community improvement project upon completion of the Neighborhood Leadership Institute. The Neighborhood Leadership Institutes target priority neighborhoods with fast-growing immigrant communities:

East Harlem / Harlem
Queens
Astoria / Jackson Heights / Corona
Staten Island
St. George / Port Richmond / Park Hill

Sunset Park / Flatbush
Program Outcomes
The seminars will:
BRING residents together to work on issues that matter to the community.
BUILD a network of community partners.
SUPPORT your group’s work with new organizing skills.
INCREASE your group’s knowledge of how government works.
Program Structure

Who Is an Ideal NLI Candidate?
The ideal Neighborhood Leadership Institute candidate is an immigrant leader who wants to be more involved in his/her community. They are interested in the well-being of their neighborhood and working within their community to make a difference. The candidate must reside or work in one of the neighborhoods listed above and be proficient in English.
