Help Create Thanksgiving for People in Far Rockaway Recovering from Hurricane Sandy

November 16, 2012 ICNY

A message from our colleague, Interfaith Center staff member Rev. Darren Ferguson, who is also the pastor of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Far Rockaway:

I am reaching out to my family and friends on behalf of my church and community. I am asking for your donations to enable us to provide a joyous community Thanksgiving celebration. The time is short, so I need you to act now.

God gave me the vision of a tent set up on our church property with a generator to keep it warm inside. On the inside of the tent, we will set up tables and chairs and serve Thanksgiving dinner to the community. That’s how I want to spend my Thanksgiving.

Here is what we need: a tent, a generator, tables and chairs (we have some but they need to be scrubbed down with bleach), Thanksgiving meals (we already have some food coming) and people to come and celebrate the families in Far Rockaway for their resiliency, their faith and their efforts in rebuilding. If you want to donate items, please contact me by e-mail at fergsongs2@aol.com. You can also send a tax-deductible gift via check and money order (Payable to Mount Carmel Baptist Church) to us at 348 Beach 71st Street, Arverne, NY 11692.

We will be doing a donor/volunteer conference call in the next few days. Please let me know if you are interested in participating.

God Bless You all and thank you in advance.

Rev. Darren A. Ferguson
