Witness to Transformation – Anushavan Margaryan discusses Domestic Violence Training Program for Religious Leaders

March 18, 2013 ICNY

Filed Under: New & Noteworthy, Uncategorized

No one at Interfaith Center is a better witness to how domestic violence training transforms religious leaders and their ministries than Anushavan Margaryan, ICNY’s program associate for Civic Connections and Domestic Violence.  With the DV program since it began in 2010, Anushavan has worked with 40 leaders of Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh and Buddhist faiths, many of whom have gone on to set up outreach and support programs in their communities, serving victims and families, and even counseling batterers.

In this series of video clips, Anushavan shares his testimony with you.  We hope that you will feel inspired to join with us and keep this program going.  Click here to see how you can help: http://igg.me/at/DVtrainings/x/1383481

Diversity
In the clip below, Anushavan describes the cultural and faith diversity and gender balance of this program:

Witness to Transformation
Here Anushavan describes how faith leaders are enlightened simply to learn what defines domestic violence:

Sacred Spaces
In the following clip, Anushavan talks about why it is important for faith leaders to speak about domestic violence in their sermons.  By broaching this subject in sacred spaces, religious leaders demonstrate that domestic violence is a communal and spiritual issue, and that a victim need not fear speaking out.
