High school aged students from diverse New York City faith communities debated the effectiveness of the NYPD’s Stop and Frisk practices during the final, prize winning tournament of ICNY’s “Debate in the Neighborhood” program on May 4. Judging the decisive round were NYC Commissioner of Immigrant Affairs Fatima Shama; former Vice President of the Fund for the City of New York Rev. Dr. Alfonso Wyatt, and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Rohde.
If you think all debate programs are the same, check out the short video below to see what makes “Debate in the Neighborhood” uniquely different and important. We extend the greatest appreciation to the youth groups that participated in this year’s program:
Hindu Temple Society of North America
Jamaica Muslim Center
Sikh Cultural Society and Gurdwara
Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice
Islamic Leadership School
We hope to see you next year!
