Guest speaker Dr. Sarah Sayeed ’90, the Director of Community Partnerships for the Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY), will discuss her experiences working on Catholic-Muslim partnerships in New York City. As ICNY’s website says, “Islam and Christianity have rich traditions of social service, community action, and interfaith work.” Dr. Sayeed is part of an initiative to partner Catholics and Muslims in developing joint social justice programs like food drives, women’s groups, and events for recovering drug addicts. Imam Sohaib Sultan, the Muslim Life Coordinator and Chaplain, and Fr. David Swantek of the Aquinas Institute will also be part of the conversation.
Dr. Sarah Sayeed ’90 is a former assistant professor at Baruch College and earned a Ph.D. in communications from the Annenberg School for Communications at the University of Pennsylvania. She coordinates the Catholic-Muslim Initiative at ICNY and the Rabbi Marshall T. Meyer Retreats for Social Justice. She is also a board member of Women in Islam, Inc. and has written articles about women in the Muslim tradition, interfaith dialogues, and religious harmony.
