Ganesa Chathurthi is the Hindu festival celebrated in honor of the god Ganesa (or Ganesh), the elephant-headed remover of obstacles and the god of beginnings and wisdom.
Celebrations take place throughout the 10-day period, culminating with the Grand Ratha Yatra (Sunday, Sept. 20, 12:30 pm), when priests bring the Ganesa deity from the temple and parade it through the streets of the neighborhood on a raised dais, in a colorful & joyous procession with hundreds of Hindu devotees.
