ICNY is honored to join Hindus for Human Rights and other partners in co-sponsoring a multifaith celebration of Deepavali in our nation’s capital. Hindus observe Diwali as the festival of lights celebrating the victory of good over evil. Sikhs observe Bandi Chhor Divas, celebrating Guru Hargobind’s liberation of Sikh prisoners in the 17th century. In Bengal, Kali Puja honors the powerful mother goddess Kali, and in Nepal, people celebrate Tihar with colorful rangoli. We observe these and many other diverse and special holidays during this festival season.
In this time of immense hatred and division, we must come together to affirm our shared sense of community, humanity, and love. Join us this year for a multi-faith gathering focused on our shared values of justice, liberation, unity, and peace, remembering that none of us are free until all of us are free.
