Cultural Crossroads in Flushing, Queens: Brazil Meets India

Flushing Town Hall presents the exclusive event: “Cultural Crossroads” – featuring award-winning Veena musician Nivedita ShivRaj with her World Music band “Charanams” ( www.Charanams.com).

Charanams will perform exotic carnatic compositions of Nivedita ShivRaj ( www.NiveditaShivRaj.com).

This event brings together two cultures – Brazil and India – on one stage for a NEW series with an open dance floor. Nivedita ShivRaj brings the Indian music and Velly Bahia presents Axe music from Bahia, linking Brazil?s African roots with energetic drumming, dancing and homage to the deities – The Orishas.

The event begins with dance lessons at 7 p.m. which will be followed by music of the two bands and a musical jam.

Dance Lessons from India will be presented by Dancer, Choreographer Sridhar Shanmugham.

Date and time: April 5, 2013 (Friday) 7 pm
