Development Associate/Event Manager Job Description

February 27, 2018 ICNY

The Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY) works to overcome prejudice, violence, and misunderstanding by activating the power of the city’s grassroots religious and civic leaders and their communities.  Our goal is to create understanding and respect among the city’s immigrant and grassroots religious leaders and their communities, as well as to encourage civic participation. Together, we address the city’s shared social concerns.

ICNY is now seeking to fill a four-month (with an option to extend) full-time position for a Development Associate/Event Manager.  The Development Associate/Event Manager will work with the Executive Director to shore up current donor support  while attracting a wider group of mission-aligned large and small donors.  She or he will also work with the Executive Director and program staff on the 2018 Annual Gala, to be held on June 11, 2018 for approximately 300 people.  The position will require a creative thinker – able to develop and implement his or her ideas, with attention to detail and to personal relationships.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Work with Executive Director and Board Committee on event planning, including cultivating table hosts and producing a working budget for the June 11, 2018 Annual Gala;   vendors including an event producer, venue liaison, designer, printer, artists, and selecting honorees. Collaborate on producing a detailed script for the evening. Coordinate outreach, publicity, media, and social media to generate ticket sales. Follow-up includes collecting outstanding pledges, sending acknowledgement letters, and arranging cultivation lunches with Executive Director.
  • Work with Executive Director and Board members generally on individual donor cultivation,  including: prospect research, meetings with current and potential donors, organizing donor cultivation events tied to ICNY programs, and facilitating planned giving and bequests.
  • Work with Executive Director on other public communications and small-donor campaigns,  including: writing communication/cultivation materials for diverse audiences, developing social media fundraising strategies, and maintaining donor database.
  • Work with Executive Director and program staff on grant writing for foundation and government funding, including: researching new funding opportunities, writing/editing proposals and reports, and coordinating meetings/correspondence with grant officers.
  • Work with Executive Director on Board management,  including: supporting Board members’ fundraising efforts and preparing budgets, reports, and other materials for quarterly Board meetings.

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of skills, experience, and passion in the following areas:

  • Two to three years’ experience in various aspects of fundraising/development/event planning, with some experience in donor cultivation.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Advanced degree and/or postgraduate  certificate preferred.
  • Creative development vision and entrepreneurial “hustle,” including the ability to work both independently and collegially, generating new ideas/approaches in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including experience writing proposals, concept papers, appeals, and donor cultivation materials.
  • Experience in event planning, ideally including large-scale fundraising events and small-scale donor engagements programs.
  • Experience in program budgeting and knowledge of donor/contact management software, ideally e-Tapestry.
  • Experience in public communications, ideally including social media fundraising strategies.
  • Reliability, attention to detail, consistent follow through on commitments, and an ability to work effectively under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to supervise consultants, vendors, interns, and volunteers.
  • Deep respect for religious/cultural diversity, and ideally some knowledge of faith-based nonprofit sector, as well as social issues surrounding religious pluralism.

Time frame: March 15-July 15, 2018, with the option to continue

Hours: Full time

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Start date: March 15, 2018
