Discussion Regarding Issues Impacting Low-wage Workers

Hurricane Sandy has strongly impacted the lives of the poorest New Yorkers.   While salaried employees worked if they could after Sandy, many of the poorest New Yorkers faced the prospect of losing days, even a crucial week of pay on top of the economic ground they have lost since the recession.  This Tuesday we will gather to discuss ways we can work together to address the issues impacting these workers – such as the need for a higher pay, paid sick days and most importantly – respect and fair treatment.

Hosted by United New York.

Who:        Faith Leaders

Where:     Sylvia’s Restaurant, 328 Lenox Avenue, between W. 126 and W. 127 in Manhattan.

When:      Tuesday, November 13, 6:30pm

RSVP:       Kira Shepherd at the kcshepherd@theblackinstitute.org

We received information (but have not been able to verify) that Con Edison has immediate openings (900) for Safety Site Inspectors in every borough.  Duties include placing yellow safety tape around areas with downed trees ensuring that the public stay away from frees or downed lines.  Candidates must have their own vehicle, clean driver’s license, and work boots.  Shifts from 7am – 7pm; and 7pm – 7am.  $25 per hour.

Send resumes to Jako Borren: jborren@restorationplaza.org at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration with subject line: “Con Edison Openings.”
