The Interfaith Center of New York joins Roman Catholic New Yorkers in honoring yesterday’s selection of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina who has chosen the name Pope Francis I. ICNY celebrates the legacy of the new Pope’s namesake, St. Francis of Assisi and his extraordinary legacy of interfaith peacemaking and commitment to the poor so needed in a world still rife with religious conflict and vast economic disparity. We wish to take the opportunity to recommend Paul Moses’ book The Saint and the Sultan http://www.saintandthesultan.com/ and highlight the interfaith work that Roman Catholic and Muslim social service providers are doing together in New York City to fight hunger and prejudice.
