The Interfaith Center of New York joins religious leaders around the world, including Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb of al-Azhar Mosque, in condemning the barbarism of Friday’s attack on worshippers at a Sufi mosque in northern Sinai. ICNY stands with the families of the over 300 victims, and our prayers are with the wounded as well. In response to the worst recent attack on Egyptian soil, and keeping in mind the disproportionate impact of terrorism in predominantly Muslim countries, we would again underscore the condemnations from local religious leaders. For example, in response to the attack Sheikh el-Tayeb stated clearly: “The shedding of blood, the violations of the sacred houses of God, and the terrorizing of worshippers are acts of corruption on the earth.” ICNY humbly adds our voice to his in condemning this horrific act of violence.
