ICNY’s E-bulletin for October is here: March for Immigrant Respect, Interfaith Support for Syrian Refugees, NYC Buddhist Global Relief’s Walk to Feed the Hungry

September 30, 2013 ICNY

Dear Friends,

An ICNY-brokered partnership between the Catholic Vicariate of Central Harlem and the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood led to an historic interfaith recovery educational forum in Harlem. About 40 men and women attended the session to hear about recovery journeys and the connection between spirituality and recovery. The event was held at the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood.

This September while the UN General Assembly opened at the United Nations, Shinnyo–en, a Japanese Buddhist community, drew thousands of New Yorkers to Central Park for a celebration of peace with floating lanterns. In addition, the Interfaith Center of New York’s staff member Dr. Sarah Sayeed was featured in the Huffington Post article “Meet 5 People Inspiring Peace” by Engy Abdelkader.

ICNY joined organizations and individuals lending their voices in support of Dr. Prabhjot Singh, Sikh Professor at Columbia University who was attacked in Harlem not far from ICNY’s offices. The incident is being investigated as a hate crime and a large number of statements have been issued about it. See this statement from the Jews Against Islamophobia Coalition.  And here is Professor Singh’s own response.

Upcoming this month you will find a Brooklyn rally for immigrant respect, interfaith support for Syrian refugees in Jordan, a Clergy breakfast for NYC car wash workers and more.
