Interfaith Peace Gathering – Commemoration of Hiroshima / Nagasaki Atomic bombings

All are welcome. The event is FREE.

New York – Reverend Dr. T. Kenjitsu Nakagaki, Japanese Buddhist Priest, President of the Buddhist Council of New York and Vice Chair of the Interfaith Center of New York, will lead an Interfaith ceremony with local Christian, Buddhist, Shinto, Jewish, Hindu, and Muslim leaders to commemorate the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Messages from the Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be read. Hiroshima survivor Tomiko Morimoto West will share her story.

The event will also feature performances by Japanese and American musicians including: Toshiko Akiyoshi, Grammy nominated jazz pianist; Lew Tabackin, jazz saxophone/flutist; Shinji Harada, one of Japan’s top recording artists; Mataro Misawa, one of Japan’s leading percussionists; Carman Moore, jazz composer and conductor; Kiori Kawai, dancer and choreographer; and Japanese Choral Harmony “TOMO” choir.

At 7:15 pm EST, the exact moment of the Hiroshima bombing (Japan time 8:15 am on August 6) bells for peace will be rung.

The Aug. 5th event is hosted by West Park Presbyterian Church and Center at West Park, and supported by The Interfaith Center of New YorkIand the Buddhist Council of New York . also supported by Origami Therapy Association.
