Invitation to a public lecture given by The Rev. Chloe Breyer, Executive Director The Interfaith Center of New York:
St. Paul’s Pluralism: The Peace-building Role of the Jerusalem Collection and its Implications for Aid Assistance Across Religions
Date: Tuesday, May 7
Time: 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Location: St. Mary’s Episcopal Church 521 W. 126th St. (between Amsterdam and Broadway)
This lecture will explore the question of religious and cultural identity in Second Corinthians, Galatians, Romans, and Acts. It will investigate the possibility that Paul’s efforts to promote non-circumcision for Gentile Christians could shed light on interfaith peace-building and aid efforts between Christian and non-Christian communities today. In particular, this talk will examine whether the Collection was a means of bridging difference between Gentile and Jewish Christians and what implications such an effort might have for US Christian aid supporting the education of Afghan Muslim girls. Light Refreshments will be served. RSVP: cbreyer@interfaithcenter.org.
