(New York, NY 6/12/2016) The Majlis Ashura (Islamic Leadership Council) of New York, today condemns the horrific violence that took place in Orlando, Florida.
A man shot and killed 50 people in a nightclub using a high power assault rifle, in an apparent hate crime. Meanwhile, in the same city another man, armed with two handguns, a hunting knife, and two large-capacity magazines, killed a young singer. Both men used items that are considered illegal in many states but not Florida.
“We stand in solidarity with the families and relatives of the victims, and condemn all types of violent acts such as this despicable and senseless attack. We also call for meaningful and effective gun control to help curb the increasingly violent trend in our society,” said Cheikh Ahmed Mbareck, the Executive Director of the Council.
