Mayan Elders of the K’iche’ kingdom visit NYC for the first time

October 19, 2012 ICNY

Thousands of years ago, Mayan astronomers foresaw in 2012 a unique alignment of the cosmos which occurs once every 64,000 years. Much has been made of 2012 and it’s coincidence with the “end” of the Mayan calendar.  Doomsday, end of the world, apocalypse!  And yet, this is not be the way the Maya see it.  In fact, this is the Maya moment, launching into the future with a reverence for ancient values, indigenous culture and traditional design.

The Maya identified this new cycle as a monumental transition and an opportunity to realign priorities based on the feminine principles of love, gratitude, care and respect for both humanity and our environment.  For the Maya, ushering a new cycle is a huge celebration.  Recently, in preparation for that celebration, the Mayan Elders of the K’iche’ kingdom expressed the desire to come to New York City, to deliver their ancestor’s message to the broadest of cross cultural Institutions – the United Nations.  The group is led by Don Tomás Calvo, the highest moral authority of the Maya, described as the Mayan Pope.

The Mayan Elders will visit New York City from October 23rd to the 31st to deliver their ancestor’s message to the broadest of cross cultural Institutions.

In keeping with the Mayan worldview five special places have been identified (four representing the cardinal points and one the center) that the K’iche’ Elders will mark with either a blessing, a ceremony or a presentation. Each one of these special events will invite the NY community to celebrate and receive the new era of Love and Wisdom. People will learn about the considerations humankind faces, both collectively and individually.

These points include Central Park, NYU, Sanctuary NYC, The Nicholas Roerich Museum, and the Permanent Mission of Guatemala to the UN. The majority of these events will be open to the general public and will be free of charge, putting a special focus on the Guatemalan community in NY.

Events Open to the Public:

Saturday October 27th: Mayan Ceremony in the Great Hill Central Park. 12PM – 4PM

Sunday October 28th: Mayan Ceremony at Sanctuary NYC. 2PM – 4:30PM

Monday October 29th: Mayan Ceremony at NYU’s Center for Academic and Spiritual Life, Room 475. 2PM – 4PM
