On Eve of 9/11 Anniversary, Interfaith Center and Representatives of the Lower East Side and Chinatown invite community to discuss:

Coming Together for Low-Income Housing and the Health of Our Community

Thursday, August 30, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Mariners’ Temple Baptist Church, 3 Henry Street, NY, NY 10038 (handicapped entrance on Oliver Street)

As the 11th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, the Interfaith Center of New York and the Coalition to Protect Chinatown & the Lower East Side invite workers, residents, business owners, and civic leaders to discuss how together they can address the current crisis facing our community: the widespread displacement of residents, small businesses and community programs.

Especially since the disaster of September 11, many in this Lower Manhattan community report rising rents; the displacement of residents, small businesses, day cares, and senior centers; health problems from the toxic fallout of 9/11 and deteriorating housing conditions; and severe unemployment or sweatshop conditions.

As the City proposes to build on 10 blocks of public land called SPURA (Seward Park Urban Renewal Area), this community meeting will discuss how the Chinatown and Lower East Side community can voice its needs for low-income housing; affordable spaces for community programs and small businesses; and jobs for the local community.
