The response to Super Storm Sandy in New York City has clearly demonstrated that congregations, faith-based organizations and our non-profit service-provider partners form the backbone of disaster relief and recovery. It is critical for us to illuminate the vital role that our sector has played and will continue to play in NYC disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Early on, the unprecedented outpouring of goods and services from our communities has been crucial; our long-term recovery programs will be needed for years to come. However, the scale of Sandy’s impact has made it challenging to locate and network effectively with all the resources available to affected families, congregations and other relief and recovery organizations. And so we seek to strengthen our impact by sharing solid information, leveraging our resources, and enhancing our partnerships.
