Please spread the word on this conference, & help social service & mental health care providers work more effectively with religiously diverse New Yorkers

April 20, 2017 ICNY

Hello Friends and Colleagues.

To make a difference in today’s New York, social service and mental health care providers need to understand the religious lives of the people they serve.  Good thing there’s still time to register for the next Social Work and Religious Diversity conference!

I hope you can join this important conversation on Wednesday, May 10th. Just click here for detailed information, online registration, and free resources.

Faith leaders and service providers in conversation at the 2016 Social Work and Religious Diversity conference

You don’t have to be a social worker to attend, but the conference is designed to meet the needs of New York State LM/LCSWs, by offering seven continuing education credit hours, approved by the State Education Department to satisfy social work licensing requirements.

This year’s conference will explore the relationships between Religion, Spirituality, and Family Life.  Interfaith panel discussions will address questions like:

How do religious beliefs and values shape family systems in diverse faith communities?  How are religious practices and spiritual experiences woven into the fabric of family life?

What are the distinctive needs of interfaith couples and families?  How do Jewish-Christian families negotiate religious diversity at home?  How about Sunni-Shia families?

How do faith communities themselves function as families?  How do New Yorkers find mutual support and identity at Christian churches, Orisha houses, and elsewhere?

There are no simple answers, but exploring these questions will help social service and mental health care providers work more effectively with religiously diverse New Yorkers.

I hope you can join us on May 10th.  Again, just click here for detailed information, online registration, and free resources.

See you there!
