Date: Wednesday May 4
Time: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Location: Bonhoeffer Room, New York Theological Seminary, 475 Riverside Drive, Suite 500, NY, NY 10115

Offering a new, fresh paradigm of doing pneumatology, leading Pentecostal theologian Veli-Matti Karkkainen’s new book “Spirit and Salvation” presents a vision of the Spirit of Love for the sake of the religiously pluralist and (post-)secular globalized world. Karkkainen suggests a shift from a “unitive” paradigm that speaks only of One Spirit of God operating primarily within the “spiritual” realm of the individual believer and Christian community, to a “plural” paradigm. In the plural constructive pneumatology, the Spirit of God is located within other “spirits” in the world, and set in the context of other faith traditions and their cosmologies, natural sciences, history, culture, arts, and socio-political realities – without also leaving behind her role in salvation, healing, and empowerment of the faithful. Don’t miss this vital conversation about the role of the Holy Spirit in 21st century.

PANELISTS
The Rev. Chloe Breyer, Interfaith Center of New York
The Rev. Dr. Sam Cruz, Union Theological Seminary
The Rev. Dr. Jill Schaeffer, New York Theological Seminary
