The theme of next week’s Marshall Meyer Retreat for Social Justice is “Widening the Lens on Community-Police Relations” and will draw on the experiences of diverse religious leaders and civic officials living in New York, Glasgow, Barcelona, and Los Angeles, cities that share common demographics, security, and civil liberty challenges.
One panelist joining us to discuss “International Perspectives on Police Community Relations: Key Issues for Diverse Cities” will be Detective Chief Inspector Brian Gibson. Gibson is a serving police officer with Police Scotland. He has 23 years police service with Strathclyde Police one of the 8 Scottish forces prior to the single Scottish Police Service being set up in April 2013. DCI Gibson has worked in a variety of operational roles throughout his service predominately based in the city of Glasgow. He has specialised in community engagement for a number of years developing the role of Force Race Relations Officer and more recently Head of the Force Equality and Diversity Unit. He is currently the Prevent Lead for Scotland working within the Specialist Crime Division of Police Scotland.
DCI Gibson is married with two young children and resides in the outskirts of Glasgow in the village of Milngavie, the starting point for the West Highland Way.
