The theme of next week’s Marshall Meyer Retreat for Social Justice is “Widening the Lens on Community-Police Relations” and will draw on the experiences of diverse religious leaders and civic officials living in New York, Glasgow, Barcelona, and Los Angeles, cities that share common demographics, security, and civil liberty challenges.
One panelist joining us to discuss “International Perspectives on Police Community Relations: Key Issues for Diverse Cities” will be Nimai Pandit Raja Das (David Marsan). Nimai came in contact with the Hindu Vaisnava tradition in Spain in early 1990. Inspired by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada’s books, he became vegetarian and practiced daily japa meditation (chanting the Lord’s Holy Names on beads) and later joined the ISKCON Temple in Barcelona. He married Jaya Laksmipriya in 2004 and started a preacher lifestyle with his wife as committed temple residents. Since then, he has held managerial responsibilities in ISKCON Spain, as the national council secretary and ISKCON Barcelona Temple secretary. He is also one of the spokesmen for ISKCON Barcelona Hare Krishna Temple, representing his organization as a government liaison, in Hindu community affairs, interfaith venues and in media.
The Rabbi Marshall T. Meyer retreats are New York City’s main concourse for interfaith discussions about important social issues that communities face. To participate, please register by completing the registration form. Space is limited, so please hurry!
