Reverend Riddle came to ICNY and CONNECT’s domestic violence training program so that he could help a neighbor in need. But what he discovered was, as he describes in the video below, a “revelation”: that he himself was an abuser. “Here I (was) trying to find a way to help someone else,” he remembers, “when I found out I’m the one who needed help.”
In learning to heal his life and family, Rev. Riddle’s ministry was transformed. He now runs “Operation Bright Angel,” which supports victims and abusers. His ability to counsel is informed by his training: “I know where I can get abusers help, instead of telling them go home and pray. For a victim, instead of telling her keep a distance, I know where to get help.”
As New York State Task Force Chaplain, Rev. Riddle says he would like to make this training part of the regular clergy curriculum, so that all of them will know how to address domestic violence when they encounter it in their communities.
Our campaign to finance this program’s future is nearing its end, and we need your help. Please spread the word and make whatever donations you can: http://igg.me/at/DVtrainings/x/1383481. Thank you.
