Social Work and Religious Diversity
Full-length videos from ICNY’s 2011 Social Work and Religious Diversity course, featuring academic introductions to Afro-Caribbean religions, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism (appearing below in alphabetical order), panel discussions with religious leaders and faith-based service providers from each tradition, and thoughtful questions from an audience of social workers. All told, it’s about 15 hours of community-based diversity education, providing a foundation for social work practice with religiously diverse New Yorkers.
Other ICNY Programs on Social and Clinical Issues
Training on “Islam, Parenting, and Foster Care,” featuring the voices and perspectives of Muslim community leaders. Originally developed for a 2014 ICNY program working to support staff members at Roman Catholic and secular child welfare agencies by building cultural sensitivity towards Muslim families.
Interfaith dialogue on “Scripture and Healing: Perspectives from the Yoruba and Christian Traditions,” held on October 30, 2014. Featuring presentations and discussion with Dr. Insook Lee, Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling at New York Theological Seminary, and Chief Solagbade Popoola, leading Nigerian Ifa priest and co-founder of Ifaworks.
