The 28th Rabbi Marshall T. Meyer Retreat for Social Justice

Widening the Lens on Community-Police Relations:

Comparisons Across Cities

New York, Glasgow, Barcelona, Los Angeles

Date/Time: Wednesday, June 12, 3:00 pm until Thursday, June 13, 4:00 pm
(A bus departs ICNY at 2:00 pm SHARP on Wednesday and leaves Stony Point at 4:00pm on Thursday)
Location: Stony Point Center, 17 Cricketown Road, Stony Point, NY 10980

The 28th Marshall T. Meyer Retreat for Social Justice will draw on the experiences of diverse religious leaders and civic officials living in New York, Glasgow, Barcelona, and Los Angeles, cities that share common demographics, security, and civil liberty challenges.

  • Learn from examples of constructive partnerships and how local law enforcement engages with religiously-diverse communities across cities.
  • Hear from local diverse religious leaders about their engagement with New York City Police.
  • Discuss goals and strategies to improve relationships with local police, based on experiences shared from New York City, Glasgow, Barcelona, and Los Angeles.
  • Speakers include NYPD Community Affairs, Det. Brian Gibson (Scotland Police), Dr. Salah Beltagui (Scotland), Rosa Negre (Barcelona Police), Shakeel Syed (Los Angeles), local NYC religious leaders and policy advocates.

The Rabbi Marshall T. Meyer retreats are New York City’s main concourse for interfaith discussions about important social issues that communities face. To participate, please register by completing the registration form. Space is limited, so please hurry!

Event is Free, but Registration is Required: Register online by clicking here.

Bus Service will depart Stony Point at 4pm on June 13, returning to ICNY with drop-off at 116th & Broadway. Double Room and meals are free.  We ask for a $20 contribution for transportation costs and requests for a single room will require a payment of $40.  Payment may be made on day of the program, or by check, or online at http://mm28retreat.eventbrite.com.   Please contact Sarah Sayeed at (212) 870 3519 or ssayeed@interfaithcenter.org with any questions.
