The Mayor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Partnerships is making it possible for your house of worship to Adopt-A-Shelter to provide clothing, community, and services to asylum seekers. This is a great opportunity for your house of worship to make a difference to asylum seekers in need.
Who is eligible to participate?
Any house of worship is eligible to enroll in the Adopt-A-Shelter plan. You will need volunteers and a place to store and give out clothes and toiletries. The Office of Faith Based and Community Partnerships will provide you with donated items and will pair you with the nearest shelter to your house of worship.
How does it work?
You house of worship will either go to the shelter or the shelter will provide a flyer to the asylum seekers as to when can come to receive clothes and toiletries.
What do I need to do to enroll my house of worship?
Please email the Office of Faith Based and Community Partnerships at cfcp@cityhall.nyc.gov. Some from the team will get back to you to pair you with an available shelter with asylum seekers.
Please feel free to collect donations as well. See flyer above.
