When the expensive wall was being built between Mexico and the U.S. came Pope Francis’ urgent teaching: “No more walls; build bridges.” —Reverend James Francis Sheehan, Jr., campus minister and chaplain at Hostos Community College.

Out today - the latest in our recurring series "Advocacy Blog: Faith & Action for New New Yorkers," compiling advocacy updates and resources to help you support new New Yorkers. The blog also offers spiritual reflections from different faith leaders about why we do this work.

As an organization seeking to end the prejudice and violence that stems from religious differences, we are called to learn from the past and urge our government to do the same.

So many positive efforts underway to bring peace to our society and planet. Read more in our April newsletter, out now - check the link in our bio or go here:

A Passover Seder is a symbolic ritual meal that commemorates the Israelites' liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt, involving a retelling of the Exodus story with ritual foods, blessings and song. The story has inspired the struggle for freedom across ages and continents. It forms a spiritual framework for our interfaith gathering against sex trafficking.

Led by Shira Milgrom, Rabbi Emeritus of @kolaminy (Westchester, NY), Rev. Adrian Dannhauser, Rector of @churchoftheincarnationnyc, and Lori Cohen, CEO of @weare_pact Protect All Children from Trafficking.

Sponsored by the The @thenewyorkboardofrabbis, Inc., the Interfaith Center of New York, and the The @episcopaldioceseofny Task Force Against Human Trafficking.

All ticket sales go to support PACT and its mission to protect every child’s right to grow up free from child sexual exploitation and trafficking through education, legislative advocacy and partnerships.

Welcome to the second edition of "Faith & Action for New New Yorkers." We are compiling advocacy updates and resources to help you support new migrants and asylum seekers. We also want to share reflections from faith leaders and community members explaining how their religious traditions call them to welcome these new New Yorkers, and to serve the most vulnerable amongst us.

We invite ordained and lay leaders of faith communities to contribute reflections for the series.

In an uncertain time where it's easy to feel angry, sad, and disappointed it's important to remind ourselves of what we stand for. That's why ICNY has joined with great partners to remind each other what we believe in: Democracy. Our multi-faith Mondays are a place to sing, shout, and pray for a resilient, inclusive democracy. We hope you'll join us next Monday at 5:30 in Columbus Circle.

Whatever your beliefs about the situation in, or the future of, the middle east, it is a threat to the rights of every one of us for our government to detain and relocate an individual without charging him.  A government set on taking away people’s rights will start with those whose views are not popular and move on to the rest of us.
